China has something almost no other nation has right now: a unified government that prioritizes its own citizens. They have stability and can plan in decades as they admit themselves. When oil went too low, they bought to stabilize prices while also storing the excess for a time like this. Now they have the ability to drop the hammer on the US by buying oil like they were before the war. They want to be seen as the strategic world leader that has stable leadership long term. Now the US is going through massive policy shifts every few years and it’s like a top wobbling before it falls over. If our credit drops and the bond market blows up, China is in a position to start leveraging their currency as the more stable currency for global trade.
