@chronic.kaleigh: It’s the “best” plan, but even so— NOT GREAT. Like wtf is an $8,300 out of pocket max? I’m so concerned because I ALSO will have to stop a few other medications and switch some doctors. So awful. #chronicillness #chronicallyill #chronicillnessawareness #healthinsurance #pots

Hey friend if it’s a branded drug and you meet certain income requirements some manufacturers have payment assistance programs that help you get the drug for free (Vraylar is one of them)

Be prepared for the brain zaps! It is no joke it feels like electricity is going through every part of your body and it hurts. As someone who has had to cold turkey their antipsychotics before that was honestly one of the worst parts.

Can your doc to a peer to peer to appeal insurance to cover it? They could say how changing medications could have negative consequences to your physical health as well. I do PA’s for a living basically and I always have to be super dramatic and 90% of the time it works. If it doesn’t work, then almost always the peer to peer works.

This is so unfair. I’m so sorry…. I don’t know your situation but does the plan not have a separate extension request besides COBRA? A lot of private plans have exceptions if the disability began before 26, especially if you need medication that the plan covers, that are separate from the COBRA protections. If there’s a disability benefits counseling service in your area they may be able to help with this to see if there’s a different option for extension besides the COBRA extension— I think this would mostly be an employer/plan and state law based though, rather than a federal protection. Seven states let some nondisabled and disabled adults stay on a parent's plan until as late as 31. 17 states allow adults to remain insured if they meet specific requirements such as disability onset prior to 26. Wishing you the best, you still shouldn’t have to jump through all these hoops though. ❤️

My employer recently switched insurance companies. I've spent 11 hours in the last 9 days trying to avoid quitting all meds cold turkey and it's going... Incredible... They definitely don't want me quitting cold turkey but they also don't seem to want to cover everything either. Gotta love insurance! Sending love and encouragement!

Its a protected class, if you do a PA and Dr shows you are stable they should approve it. Other options are check manufacturer patient assistance programs and goodrx for coupons.

I am so incredibly sorry friend. My recommendations would be Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Pharmacy, GoodRX, Amazon Pharmacy, or the manufacturer’s patient assistance program. I wish we didn’t have to worry about losing our medical care at the whim of insurance companies 🫩

Keep pushing and doing appeals, and submit for external review once you can!!! You can also reduce the amount of other meds they want you to try first if you have contraindications to them! I REALLY overexaggerated my osteopenia and immune deficiency in order to get Dupixent approved instead of a PPI or steroid

Many states have protections in place regarding this. You can check your state protections at steptherapy.com. It’ll also give you info on how to go about the process.

You can do a swab test in your mouth and they can match you to your antipsychotic thats right for you so you don't have to deal with overwhelming feelings of getting on and getting off a bunch of times
