Google AI Edge Gallery is 25k stars and it is Google's own. Download a model once and it runs on your hardware, so you can point the camera at something and ask about it, or transcribe a voice note, with nothing leaving the device. PocketPal AI is the one that feels like a real product rather than a demo, and their own line is no account, no cloud, no internet required. It runs Gemma, Qwen, Phi and Llama, and talks back with on device speech. ChatterUI is Android only, which the developer is upfront about, and what you get in exchange is real control over sampler settings and instruct formatting. Maid is the easiest way to get models onto the phone in the first place, one tap from a curated Hugging Face list or load any GGUF file you already have. And NotelyVoice is not a chatbot at all. It is Whisper running locally, turning your voice into text in over 100 languages, with the audio never leaving your hand.
