His stepmother, Letecia Stauch, initially reported that he had gone to a friend’s house and never returned. But investigators soon uncovered a disturbing trail of evidence that pointed back to Gannon’s own home—and to the person who was supposed to be caring for him. Gannon’s remains were eventually discovered inside a suitcase beneath a bridge in Florida, more than 1,000 miles from Colorado. Investigators alleged that Letecia killed Gannon inside his bedroom before attempting to conceal what happened and dispose of his body. In 2023, a jury convicted Letecia of Gannon’s murder. However, in April 2026, the Colorado Court of Appeals overturned that conviction after determining that a juror with a conflict involving the prosecuting office should not have participated in deliberations. The ruling did not determine that Gannon was not murdered or establish Letecia’s innocence; the case remains tied up in the appeals process.
