@whats.aj.say: September 11, 2001, New York City. Filmmaker Jules Naudet was shooting a documentary about rookie FDNY firefighter Tony Benetatos when a low-flying plane caught his attention. He pointed his camera up - and captured the only clear footage in existence of the first plane striking the North Tower. Purely by accident, standing in exactly the right place with a professional camera rolling. He didn't run. Jules followed Battalion Chief Joseph Pfeifer and FDNY firefighters straight into the North Tower lobby and kept filming as the emergency response unfolded around him. At 9:59 AM, the South Tower collapsed. The shockwave tore through the corridors. Glass shattered. Dust swallowed everything and then came the sound. Two layers, unmistakable: a low, rising-and-falling wail from the WTC fire alarm system echoing off concrete, and over it, sharp, scattered, unsynchronized beeping PASS devices, motion-sensor alarms built into firefighter gear that activate automatically once a person stops moving. Every beep meant someone was no longer moving. Jules made it out just minutes before the North Tower collapsed, one of the only people who was inside the towers with a camera and walked out alive.
