Russell Brand is facing years in prison after being found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. Detectives gathered evidence from more than 100 witnesses and reviewed thousands of documents as part of a complex Metropolitan Police investigation. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of London’s Metropolitan Police said the conviction was “a testament to the extraordinary courage, resilience and determination of the women who came forward and reported what happened to them.” “Brand used his influence, status and fame to exploit and sexually offend against women,” he said. “As his profile grew, so too did his sense of entitlement.” The court heard how Brand, now 51, “preyed on women” he encountered while becoming one of Britain’s best-known stand-up comedians, a TV and radio host, and a Hollywood movie star. The Met began investigating after allegations involving Brand were reported by Channel 4's Dispatches, The Times and The Sunday Times in September 2023. On Thursday, a jury at Southwark Crown Court found Brand guilty after deliberating for more than eight hours over two days. He has been remanded in custody after a four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court and will be sentenced at the same court on Monday 9 November.
