Our DIY VJ panel feature wall is definitely in my top 3 reno transformations so far. It wasn’t as easy as just installing the panels though… to make our open plan living dream become a reality we had to knock back the wall between the kitchen and living room and restructure the wall before gyprocking it and plastering (I used this wall as a practice wall when learning to plaster as I knew it would be covered with the VJ panels). We ordered the VJ panels through the @Bunnings order so we could get the 3m long panels and then cut them to size. The skirting boards were then fixed to the wall too. I used no more gaps at the top, bottom and between the joined panels to give a more seamless look. The VJ panels were secured to the wall using liquid nails and screws that were countersunk before applying wood filler and sanding them back before painting. Under the benchtop we pretty much used this same process expect used a different paint colour. For the edging we used PVC moulding and fixed them to the wall also using liquid nails and mitred the edges. I primed the panels although they came pre-primed and used the colour @Dulux Australia feather soft 50% like the rest of the walls in the house and Dulux natural white in the H20 enamel paint under the benchtop. Once the light switch and power point were fixed to the wall and the ceiling fan and fire alarm were installed the space was looking so good - despite the floors needing another good clean.
