@dr.zac.spiritos: When someone is in an MCAS flare, one of the first questions I ask is: what changed? Sometimes the answer is surprisingly small. You refill a medication you’ve taken for months, but the manufacturer changed—and suddenly the fillers, dyes, or inactive ingredients are slightly different. A medication you previously tolerated may now be contributing to symptoms. But this speaks to a bigger point: MCAS flares can give us clues in terms of what to avoid, but also, where to go with potential treatment. Pay attention to the pattern. If food repeatedly triggers symptoms, cromolyn may make sense. If environmental exposures consistently cause flushing, itching, or hives, additional antihistamine therapy—or sometimes something like Xolair—may be a better fit. Food, medications, heat, fragrances, infections, hormones, stress, and other environmental exposures can all provide useful information. Don’t just ask, “How do I stop this flare?” Ask, “What triggered it?” Sometimes the trigger tells you what to avoid—and what treatment to reach for next. #mcas #heds #dysautonomia #mastcellactivationsyndrome #hypermobility

Mikki Lee :
My pharmacy orders my meds in from the same manufacturer because I had this issue. I know sometimes that isn't possible so I am very thankful.

Manufacture change messed me up SO bad. The VA bumped me to all generics in March and are still refusing to acknowledge medical necessity of manufacture specific refills. I’ve just had to self pay since despite having an allergist pushing them to fill it correctly

Yes, my body can tell every time the manufacturer changes. And most doctors act like I’m crazy. When I learned about mcas everything started to make sense.

Curious about rhapsido for flushing/hives! The Xolair warnings make me nervous, but I know it’s a lifesaver for some.

MCAS - stopped all allergy meds and started paying closer attention to my flares. Crazy to see what causes hives vs vocal cord swelling

Changes in sleep, movement, eating, drinking, environment, etc. The slightest thing can set it off, and then it snowballs as you mess up your routines from being in a flare. It's a nightmare.
