@vitaldiscourse: Growing up as a millennial was a completely different era. First off, we were raised on the classics: Stifler’s mom, Stacy’s mom... "Your Mom" jokes were peak cinema. My very first crush was a girl about three years older than me. Devastating stuff for a kid. To make matters worse, my buddy Trailer Park Ben started dating her. He saw me sitting there, heartbroken, eating a pack of Fruit Snacks, and tried to console me. He told me he’d take one of my Fruit Snacks, give it to her to kiss, and bring it back to me. He didn't do that. He just put it in his own mouth, walked around, and handed it back to me. That was life back then—before everyone started taking everything so seriously and getting offended by every little thing. Ben isn't with us anymore; we lost him to an overdose. But those memories stick with you. As millennials, we grew up craving real connection. We built actual relationships, in real-time, face-to-face (even if it meant getting tricked into eating a pre-chewed Fruit Snack by your best friend). In a world full of screens, notifications, and constant noise, sometimes you just have to put the phone down. Focus on real-life connection. Be present with the people right in front of you—and be present with yourself.
