@sacramentourbanmedia916: Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old mother of four, was found hanging from a tree behind a vacant house in Jackson, Mississippi, on Aug. 3. What was initially described as a death investigation is now being treated as a possible homicide while authorities await the results of a state autopsy. Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney addressed the case during a city council meeting on Sept. 8, saying investigators have considered homicide a possibility since the beginning of the investigation. “We have been investigating this case from day one as a homicide until we hear otherwise from the medical examiner’s office,” Brackney said, according to local reports. Fortune’s body was taken to the Mississippi state medical examiner’s office, where officials are expected to determine her cause and manner of death. Authorities have not yet released those findings. The circumstances surrounding Fortune’s death have raised concerns among her relatives and members of the Jackson community. Her mother, Christy Spivey, has repeatedly rejected the possibility that her daughter died by suicide. “She was better than I had seen her in a long time. She was at peace,” Spivey told ABC News. “I know my daughter and she did not do this to herself.” Spivey also questioned the length of the investigation during an interview with the BBC, asking why the family was still waiting for answers. Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes has also called for greater scrutiny of the case. According to WAPT, Stokes sent a letter to the U.S. Attorney’s Office requesting assistance with the investigation. “Surely, somebody should say something,” Stokes said. Police have also arrested 65-year-old Terence Anderson on an unrelated charge of allegedly possessing a weapon as a convicted felon after he was interviewed in connection with the investigation, according to local reports and court records. Anderson reportedly denied involvement in Fortune’s death but acknowledged that he had previously argued with her. Authorities have not publicly identified him as a suspect in Fortune’s death.#fyp #viral
