Ethiopian New Year (Enkutatash)!, the Ethiopian New Year, is a celebration of renewal, gratitude, and hope. Unlike many other countries, Ethiopia follows its own unique calendar with 13 months—12 months of 30 days each, and a short 13th month called Pagume (or Pagumen), with 5 days and 6 days every leap year. Ethiopian calendar has about seven years difference from the Gregorian calendar, making our New Year one of the most distinctive. Falling every September 11/12, Enkutatash marks the end of the rainy season and the arrival of sunshine, with fields blooming in golden daisies, known as 'Adey' flower. It is a time when families and friends come together to share joy, reflect on the year gone by, and welcome the future with optimism. As we celebrate Enkutatash, I wish to all Ethiopians for a year filled with peace, happiness, and new opportunities.
