@regardless.sg: How Much Should Singapore Ministers Actually Be Paid? Everyone argues about ministerial pay. Fewer people can explain where the “right” number comes from. If $800,000 is too high, what is enough? If talent costs more, how far should Singapore keep chasing the market? The real question is how much financial sacrifice public service should require.

Prove your worth? Have they done so? With such a huge amount of human resources yet underlying issues has yet to be resolved. Can ministers be sacked for not being up to mark. CEOs will be shown the door.

A lot of people do not kno or understand, Ministers are still allowed to have their own careers or business, therefore they have not lost anything at all. They are part time minister getting millions, so, why are they losing money if they are paid lesser? 😂😂😂😂

well said, sounds arbitary or based on a guess. also how much these potential candidate really earn before they join politics? we are all assuming they are Big Time CEOs but they could be Spevialists and Experts in other domians, besides the private business sector.

If PM Lawrence Wong truly believes the pay increase is unnecessary for him, then the simplest and most principled decision would have been not to accept the increase in the first place. Donating the increased salary to charity may sound noble, but it does not answer the bigger question: Why approve and accept a massive pay increase when ordinary Singaporeans are still struggling with rising costs and stagnant incomes? Leadership is not about taking more money and then deciding where to donate it. Leadership is having the courage to say, “I don’t need this increase.” Singaporeans deserve accountability, not symbolic gestures.
