Paano kung wala siyang consistency? Efforts? What if he just married you because of his family at napilitan lang siya? As for me, oo, napilitan din ako at first. But when I saw him before our wedding, I accepted him. Sinasabi rin nila na matutunan din naming mahalin ang isa't isa, and I agreed. But after we got married, he never showed me that he was interested in getting to know me. So how can love grow if one person never even makes an effort to get to know the other person? Ang alam lang niya is kaya niyang mag-provide, pero hindi niya kayang kilalanin ang magiging asawa niya. Doon nagsimulang lumayo ang loob ko, lalo na sa mga sinabi niya before na dini-deny na niya ngayon. Natatakot ako sa "what if" na ma-experience ko ang neglect once nakuha na niya ang gusto niya. Isa pa, hindi ko naman siya lubusang kilala in the first place. Pero ang reason niya, magkakilala naman daw ang families namin, kaya bakit kailangan pa naming mag-get to know sa isa't isa? Tama ba yun?

Siguro may wisdom din sa sinabi mo “piliin mo yung taong mahal ka.” Pero in Islam, hindi lang basta love ang basis. Piliin mo yung taong may deen, magandang akhlaq, sincere ang intention, at willing kang mahalin, respetuhin, kilalanin, at panindigan. Kasi marriage is not only about kaya kitang buhayin. Yes, important ang pagiging provider, pero marriage is also about sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah—peace, affection, and mercy. Allāh says in Qur’an 30:21 na He placed affection and mercy between spouses.
