Russia edit 🇷🇺👑 (remake of my old edit cuz im out of ideas) | Song: Montagem Castelo Magico sped up Russia has one of the longest and most complex histories in Europe and Asia. Its story began with Kievan Rus’, a medieval state founded around the 9th century and centred on Kyiv. It became an important trading and cultural centre, and Christianity was adopted under Vladimir the Great in 988. In the 13th century, the Mongol invasion devastated much of Rus’ and many Russian principalities came under the influence of the Golden Horde. During this period, Moscow gradually became more powerful. By the late 15th century, Moscow had largely escaped Mongol control and emerged as the centre of a growing Russian state. In 1547, Ivan IV—known as Ivan the Terrible—became the first Russian ruler to officially take the title of Tsar. Russia expanded considerably eastward and southward. After a period of political chaos known as the Time of Troubles, the Romanov dynasty came to power in 1613. Under rulers such as Peter the Great, Russia underwent major military, economic and cultural reforms. Peter also expanded Russia's influence in Europe and founded Saint Petersburg. During the 18th century, Catherine the Great continued Russian expansion. The Russian Empire grew enormously, gaining territory around the Black Sea, Poland, the Caucasus and Siberia. By the 19th century, Russia had become one of the world's largest empires. However, Russia faced serious problems, including poverty, inequality and political repression. The emancipation of the serfs in 1861 attempted to modernise society, but tensions continued to grow. Russia suffered heavily during World War I, contributing to the 1917 Russian Revolution. The monarchy collapsed, and later that year the Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin, seized power. In 1922, the Soviet Union (USSR) was established. Under Joseph Stalin, the USSR rapidly industrialised but also experienced enormous repression, forced collectivisation and famine. During World War II, the Soviet Union suffered catastrophic losses but played a major role in defeating Nazi Germany. After WWII, the USSR became a superpower and entered the Cold War against the United States and its allies. The Soviet Union developed nuclear weapons, launched Sputnik, sent Yuri Gagarin into space, and controlled much of Eastern Europe. The Soviet system eventually weakened due to economic problems and political tensions. In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed, and the Russian Federation became an independent state. Modern Russia has remained a major global power, possessing a huge territory, significant natural resources, a large military and a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Its recent history has been shaped by political, economic and military changes, including its relationship with neighbouring former Soviet republics.
