All I know is that in the book, one of the daughters turns out to be a lesbian (and escapes the curse because of it). And I’ve heard the movie is significantly less queer

I feel like, if to enjoy a sequel, you have to completely divorce it, in your mind, from the first movie....that movie probably shouldn't have gone forward in the first place 😫 I so wanted to enjoy this movie, but everything I'm hearing is making me so dissapointed 😫😫😫

I enjoyed it, but I agree with your assessment. The storytelling was very 2026, and had more corny pg moments between characters than I enjoy. But I thought it was a fair resolution to the story.

To be fair every point you made was also true for the book. The love stories felt shoehorned in, there was less of a cozy rich feeling, it felt like the author was kind of recashing a check.

from what I know about this movie, it's the same thing you said about the legally blonde prequel: it makes the first movie not make sense. still, over 3 onions is better than I would have thought!

I'd love to know the reason why they didn't hire Griffin Dunne, the original's director for this movie. I think he was key to its overall vibe and aesthetic. Maybe he just considers himself retired? Did he want too much money? Did he want to shoot on film and make more practical effects? Was it a personality issue? I do think not hiring him was a fatal error.

yes necessary its based off a book series. yes things are changed, the first movie Alice hoffman was battling cancer, she couldnt be part of the production like she wanted to. this time she got to be on the set for this one. there are 4 books on yhe series, i was happy to see they were able to fix their mistakes from 1998 but they didnt have the next source material back then yet.
