@mandibossard: The Stand episode 1! (Well and a little bit of two until I went “I’ve gotta talk about the snot.”) #horror #thestand #stephenking #miniseries #horrortok
I couldn’t even finish the series because I hated how they sped through the apocalypse. That is my favorite part of the book and the 90’s mini series handled it so much better.

Its such a straight forward book. it did not need the flashbacks or fancy editing. i was soooo excited for this adaptation as this is probably one of my favorite books. but id take the Tv Movie any day over this shit and it sucks because i thought the casting was kind of perfect.

I felt like the adaptation was done by people who didn't understand the book – except it was Owen & Stephen King! How did it go so wrong!

I honestly forgot this existed, and I think I will stick with the ridiculous (but somehow wonderful) 1994 version 😩

Hot take- it kinda did what media does to Carrie- why is Harold like conventionally attractive… maybe it’s me that’s not how I envision him when reading 😝

I've read The Stand several times. I had a hard time following the story with the flashbacks. I think we made it 2 or 3 episodes. It was unwatchable.

This whole series is a total train wreck. Just wait until you get to New Vegas (if you make it that far).

They definitely deleted at least an episode's worth of stuff to get past the plague stuff as fast as possible. The first ep aired pre-vaccine, so I suspect that was a studio call. Unfortunately, several characters suffer for this. Larry is one of the big ones. I can say the editing calms down after the first couple episodes, which says to me a majority of the cuts were done in the early eps. (Not all of them. You can tell the showrunners were more interested in telling certain characters stories than others.) Agreed on Harold's arc. That said, they do more that I wasn't expecting. The movement in his arc happens still.
Love the series but it is a very, very flawed project.

it feels so disconnected from the source material i was almost relieved when they ~immediately~ flubbed harold's character. gave permission to view it as a separate (worse) thing than the source material, a book that has lot of stories centered around assault & healing/hurting (some of which were the first stories that helped me process some of my own experiences). still will be looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the rest of the 2020 series!

what is this worm gets into the brain of any filmmaker who gets access to Stephen King’s stuff and makes them go “hmm…why don’t I just change it?”

It was terrible! The 1994 version was AMAZING, though. I loved this book and read it a few times.

I really liked Alexander Skarsgård as Randall Flagg. He was much better than the guy in the original version.

I forgot about this. It was too spot on for the times so I didn’t watch it when it aired. Glad I saw your post before I accidentally added it to my watch list.

I watched it when it came out, and here’s what stuck with me. 1. Loved Tom Cullen. Amazingly well written and acted. 2. Skarsgard is a good choice, but they didn’t give him enough to do. 3. That’s it. Otherwise, it’s forgettable. Give me the 94 mini series any day.

I couldn’t finish it 😭 I love the 90s series it’s soo camp. But it’s technically based on the og release and not the expanded version with the “no great loss” section (aka the best part)
