I was in 8th grade and we still watched this. they didnt know how to comfort us so they played shows meant for small children that covered the topic. we also watched the mr Roger's speech and arthur. we were all teenagers and we were all sobbing. they werent meant for us, but they still comforted us. I think we needed familiar comfort shows from childhood, it really eased the fear and sadness somehow.

I always loved how Sesame Street would show personal and serious subjects for kids! And how it helps the viewers understand these situations and comfort them.

I like that they don't downplay what happened. They explain. I'm old enough to remember when Mr. Hooper died on the show because the actor had passed in real life. I remember watching that episode at my grandparents house.

Fear isn’t always crying. Silent fear is a whole new level. Not only did this help kids, it helped parents have hard conversations even when they themselves were in shock.

Something about this scene always makes me burst into tears 😭 Elmo’s just a little kid… and this was SUCH a good way to teach kids.
