@illinois247news: Uptown’s Weiss Memorial Hospital has lost its Illinois hospital license, creating another major obstacle to reopening the shuttered facility. The Illinois Department of Public Health said it would not extend Weiss Memorial’s provisional license, concluding hospital leadership had not made the necessary improvements to safely resume patient care. The hospital had been operating under a provisional license since it closed in August 2025. State officials said Weiss leadership was given additional time to demonstrate progress but that “no major progress” had been made during the past 13 months. IDPH also said it had not received a reopening notice or updated licensing application required ahead of a planned reopening. Weiss can still potentially reopen in the future, but it would have to start over through the standard Illinois hospital licensing process rather than receiving another provisional extension. Community members and owners have continued to discuss reopening the Uptown hospital. #creatorsearchinsights #illinois247 #PublicHealth #weiss #illinoisHealthDepartment @Edelweiss Hospital @health department @Illinois @Chicago City @Mayor Brandon Johnson @America
