I remember working on board the QE2 when the September 11 attacks happened. We were sailing across the North Atlantic and had already been at sea for three days. At first, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Internet access was only beginning on board, but we had a CNN news feed. The ship was diverted to Boston, and some of our passengers had family and friends who worked at the World Trade Center. It is a day I will never forget. Remembering all those who tragically lost their lives, and everyone whose life was changed forever. Rest in peace. 💔 #September11 #NeverForget #QE2 #Remembering911

It's strange looking back at this as a European and remembering when you felt such a bond with Americans. For many of us here in Denmark, it felt like an attack on us as well. The news anchor on Danish TV, a no nonsense guy, cried on TV reporting this. Practically unheard of at the time. It attacked something that we also belonged to and something we shared with the Americans. It was an attack on the hope of tomorrow we both had. Times change and much has been lost since.
