Punk fashion doesn’t exist. -Back in the 70s, punk fashion was counterculture. It was a niche of people doing what was unacceptable. Explicit graphics, extreme modifications of clothes, customizing clothes that were seen as uniforms and removing their uniformity. It was a niche… at first. -The niche became so popular that it became mainstream. Fast forward 50 years later, everyone (yes, everyone) is wearing clothes inspired and somehow affected by this niche going mainstream. Distressing, studs, explicit graphics, biker leathers, the list goes on… -And now? It’s not punk. So what is? In the 2000’s, the thing that was the most different was being nerdy. Sure, it wasn’t offensive, but it might as well have been. Someone like Kanye, wearing a backpack and rugby shirt was nearly outlawed from certain groups for his image. And this was before his controversies… This is the true sign of an innovator. Someone who changes fashion forever. We’re seeing those effects as much as we see Vivienne Westwood’s. He wasn’t hopping to a new niche trend because it was cool. He did it before it was cool. Then his confidence and the world surrounding his art made the style cool. -But since then? Who else has done something similar? Rick Owen’s is a good contender. He broke gendered clothing norms and made brutalist, avant-garde looks wearable. But that’s more through good design, not so much culture. While his works span back decades, they’ve reached mainstreams in the last 10 years. And his work has hit THE MAIN mainstream in the past 5 or so. 1But who’s next? Is there anyone currently innovating in a way that’ll change fashion forever? Are they being recognized yet? Let us all know before they blow up⬇️ 🌐🌐🌐 #streetwear #archivefashion #designerfashion What is Punk Fashion? • What Punk Fashion Actually is • Vivienne Westwood Punk Fashion • Best New Designers
