A question I’m always asked whenever people see my work is, Why do you always add flowers to your male figures? the flowers represent vulnerability, tenderness, and the need for care. I want the viewer to see that men are vulnerable too. Many men suffer in silence because society has conditioned them to “man up,” to be strong, to endure pain, and to hide their emotions in difficult situations. But strength does not mean the absence of vulnerability. Through the flowers, I want to remind us that men, too, deserve care, love, compassion, and the freedom to express what they feel.
