Seen an “auditor” video and wondering what a business can actually do? There is useful guidance available from government and other official sources. The answer isn’t simply “argue with them”. Businesses can: • Stay calm and avoid giving someone the reaction they’re looking for. • Keep staff and customers from being drawn into an argument. • Deal with actual obstruction, harassment, threats or disorder. • Protect private areas and ask people to leave if they don’t have permission to be there. • Report genuine offences where appropriate rather than simply reporting someone because they’re filming. The important thing is knowing the difference between lawful filming, being on a publicly accessible area, and being somewhere without permission. So if you see an audit video, don’t just watch the confrontation — check the official guidance and see what the business can actually do.
