I think the issue with doing a puppet show style gameplay is that in gaming we've associated low frame rate and puppet-like movement with lag so it won't necessarily come across as a gameplay choice but rather as a bug. this is one of the issues that the game south of midnight faced when they purposefully went for more of a stop motion style

Honestly they should’ve leaned way further into the aesthetic. Jointed limbs and textured skin would’ve gone a very long way in making the aesthetic look way better

Seeing those puppets from The Three Musketeers, I wonder if any of *their* designs were informed by Zelda franchise characters, since they do have th same vibe. Art inspiring art inspiring art.

I think their face proportions look very similar to cats, the shape of the eyes and the blocky nose bridge ending in tiny little noses. Little Link looks like a kitten with his dopey little face

As cool as it would have been to lean more into puppet themed version of an old game I don’t think fans would have liked it. Gamers tend to be mad of something isn’t how it already was and I feel like that’s part of the reason why people are hating on the new atheistic too. I personally like how funny they look lol

Im seeing it as a sort of retelling of a story that over time has become truly mythical. Puppet shows are usually designed to retell classical and mythic stories and given how influential OoT was for the industry and the mentality of its audience as a whole, perhaps these choices are a way to retell this mythical story with reverence, and not completely remastering/porting the old game. So, a remake in every sense, bringing this story into the modern time without stepping on the toes of the original.

I cannot go into enough detail about how much I love this style in one tiktok comment. It's new and refreshing in a whole new way to me, and the puppet show comparison makes the clothing stylisation and emphasis on detail make even more sense. I personally don't feel as much uncanny valley as others might when the trailers are in motion so, I doubt I will have trouble to get used to it in motion during gameplay either. This is also the game that convinced me to lock the fuck in at work and save up money for the console, take all my goddamn wealth Nintendo 😭
