PINCHA!! Let's get it. Save & try these drills and progressions, and let me know how it goes! Firstly, I recommend having a strong foundation in Yoga or movement before you dive into the intermediate to advanced pose Proprioception (awareness or where your body is in space) is an important part of inversion training along side building the strength, stability and the mobility required for the inversion. Use a block and strap with help train the position of your arms. Your elbows will want to flair open, the props will help counter this, and train the correct position, keeping your forearms parallel (there are many ways to do pincha and different arm/hand placements, this is just the one that works best for me). Dolphin Scapula elevation and depression Dill; We're working to elevate the shoulders in our Pincha to create stability. Doing this drill will help strengthen the shoulders and teach you where they need to be in in this pose. The WALL; Start by facing the wall, measuring the length of your legs. Flip your should around, forearms in position with strap and block (optional, but super helpful!!), come into dolphin. PUSH through your shoulders and then start walking up the wall. Using the wall in an L Shape will help teach you the feeling of stacking your toes and hips over shoulders. Play around with finding a clean, 'straight' line. While the second leg is at a 90° on the wall (or chair). Then switch legs. Be mindful you don't fall into a to back (which is harder to do when facing away from the wall). With one leg extended and stacked, come to the toes of the supporting leg. Then flex the foot, pulling the weight off the wall, then point to catch your balance. I recommend only trying this one once you have figured out how to stack yourself in correct alignment! Now go PLAY! and let me know how you go!!
