BYEBRICK.SAV pt 1 - if social media didn’t exist, I’d like to think I’d still be in my living room making songs on my Game Boy when I have a free moment. Luckily it does exist so you can know about it too, I guess. I got big plans for this one and it’s unknown whether I can pull off the sound I’m going for with it, I really don’t know. That used to make scared and not want to try. Now I just want to try it as hard as possible knowing even if I don’t match the vision I came up with, I’ll either learn something new about the limitations which will inform my practice or I’ll discover a new sound I was not expecting. On a side note, I was originally going to use an m8 for this project, but as much as the tracker principles are the same as LSDJ my mindset doesn’t work with it at the speed I need it to. The maximalist approach on Game Boy serves me well, but I can’t do that approach with 8 channels, unlimited samples and onboard effects processing, I get lost or the plan is overwhelmed quickly. It’s completely out of my element and a new challenge altogether. It’ll be a fun challenge but one to tackle without a pressing deadline. There’ll be future projects using both the Gameboy and the m8 together, but I’m fussy so this will take some time. I can’t just pick up a new piece of hardware without having at least a work in progress philosophy as to why. But that current philosophy is simply “because it’s fun” and the problem with the m8 is the Gameboy satisfies that philosophy entirely for me. There’s something more I’m after but I’ll be having to think on it for awhile before I can figure out how to incorporate new hardware into the set up of my mind before it can ever work practically for me. Just one of the joys of being me and embracing what I’m like💖.
