Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently gave a 90-minute interview to top Russian radio stations talking about everything from Ukraine ceasefire possibilities to Middle East tensions, so why don’t we take this opportunity to analyse what your favourite Foreign Minister had to say. Lavrov said that Russia has no intention of a ceasefire with Ukraine even if the countries engage in peace talks because according to him Kiev has proven to be an unreliable actor and Russia refuses to make the same mistake like they did in Istanbul. Despite this, the foreign minister believes that Russia is ready for peace talks as long as the new realities on the ground are taken into account, those new realities being the 4 new regions that Russia sees as its own. Lavrov, then went on insist that the Swiss Peace Summit is pointless because Switzerland has abandoned its neutral status and has become an openly hostile state to Russia. And finally Lavrov touched upon the heating up Middle East tensions, explaining that Russia is actively working to defuse the stand-off between Iran and Israel, but personally, I think that the wheels are already in motion and will be very difficult for anyone to stop.
