@santorinidress: There is a man standing in the courtyard behind her for the whole set, and we left him in. A courtyard in the old town of Rhodes is a public space. People cross it, sit in it and stand around in it all afternoon, and waiting for one to empty out is not a plan, it is a way to lose the light. So the composition uses the depth instead. She is close, the archway sits behind her, and a figure further back gives the whole thing a sense of distance that an empty courtyard never has. The stone here is warm and heavily worn, which is why we bring strong colour to this part of town rather than anything pale. Pale fabric against old sandstone goes muddy. We do not stage anybody who is not with us. Whoever is in the frame was already there, doing whatever they came to do, and we simply chose where to stand.
