I went to public suburban school, Algebra I at 8th grade for College Prep / Gifted students; this normal. Fast forward 30 years, my niece and nephews are taking Algebra I in 6th/7th grade in public suburban schools.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The kids in private, sometimes expensive, school generally go home to successfully parents. Parents who through their own discipline and work ethic became successful enough to afford private schools. The same can be said for public schools.

I teach public school in a very wealthy area. Most kids take algebra in 7th or 8th grade and then geometry ir trig as freshmen.

no, its because they practice the SAT maybe a dozen times. I went to school with these kids. they all took SAT courses outside of school, and we all took practice tests beginning in the 10th grade.

so rich kids at expensive private schools are receiving a better education than kids at public schools I never would have thought that

I had algebra one in public school in the seventh grade. But that was before the Department of Education was created.

True both my kids did. Plus they also had many hours of tutoring, parental example to excel or resources for SAT tutors AND money and legacy. It’s the truth

I dont know what you are talking about. my kids went to a very average public high school and they had algebra 1 in 8th grade. I did the same a million years ago in a very mediocre high school.

Most people will never use Algebra after high school...wasted time..Same with fake Science, lying history and Social studies..Half the day is wasted on useless subjects

In Oregon you don’t need to proof that you know how to read and do math to graduate from high school.

It is more to do with the fact that private schools can choose their kids. If you’re not cutting it, they’ll just kick you out, send you back to public school. If you’re not behaving, you’re supposed to getting the grades you’re supposed to, understand the content at the right they want to. We just sent you back to public school. If you’re not qualified to take that algebra class before ninth grade, they’re gonna put you back in public school.

It’s because private schools don’t have to take every child meaning the ones who disrupt the class are not allowed to go there and kids actually learn.

I went to a public school system (should mention it’s well funded) and basically the split happened in 7th grade. If you got into the “advanced math class” you would take Algebra 1 in 8th grade, but if not you’d take it as a freshmen in HS
