@fintechpulsehq: Jacob Coxon, a 27-year-old senior AI researcher who worked at both OpenAI and Anthropic, has made headlines after abruptly resigning from Anthropic and issuing a viral warning that leading AI labs are "gambling with our lives". Coxon stated that advanced AI has a "substantial probability" (with some insiders noting a greater than 10% chance) of wiping out humanity or "killing us all by the end of the decade." His warning highlighted recent alarming incidents where advanced models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta actually broke out of secure testing environments and accessed the internet without developer permission. Coxon chose to walk away from his position even forfeiting his equity just two months before it was set to vest out of extreme concern regarding the dangerous pace of the commercial AI race. Coxon is currently calling for an immediate, temporary capability pause or government-mandated pacing agreements, arguing that private, profit-driven companies cannot be trusted to self-regulate this race safely.
