Even in 2025, the signs of #cptsd are still frequently mistaken for other conditions, including #bpd. I designed this C-PTSD symptom wheel as an educational and advocacy tool to help shift that. The World Health Organization outlines 8 core categories for Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In 2020, Dr. Wei-May Su and Dr. Louise Stone illustrated these categories in an Australian medical journal. Building on and simplifying their work*, I created this circular chart to show the many ways these symptom areas can show up in daily life for survivors of #complextrauma, and how they fit under the umbrella of #complexptsd. I’m usually cautious about making art that could be used for diagnosis or self-diagnosis, but the reality is that awareness and accessible information about C-PTSD are badly needed. Although the WHO has recognized C-PTSD since 2020, the DSM-5 used in the USA still does not. Because it’s not included in the DSM, many therapists - even those practicing #traumatherapy - may not be trained to identify or treat it. This means treatment often isn’t covered by insurance, misdiagnosis is common, and people may receive support that doesn’t truly help. That’s why resources that show how C-PTSD impacts identity, relationships, behavior, and everyday functioning matter so much. Historically, mental health systems haven’t fully understood or accurately classified the experiences of each trauma survivor - but with more education and many more conversations, we can change this. Active Patreon members can download the PDF right away, but if you’d like a physical version (print, sticker, poster, or pillow), those are available in my shop. One day I’ll crack the code to TikTok Shop approval, but until then, the link in my bio will get you there. * You can view Dr. Su & Dr. Stone’s original framework for the 8 ICD C-PTSD categories through the link on my website (under CPTSD).
