It is hard to believe that the man who made Uganda laugh for 20 years is gone. Yokana Mbuuse, known to all of us as Kapere Lufotose, died on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at a hospital in Buddo, Wakiso. But the way he died has broken many hearts — he died in front of his wife and his daughter. Kapere was not just a comedian. He was a loving husband to Lydia Nakandi, famously known as Maama Trump, and a father to four children. They met not in Kampala, but during an Amarula Family show at Queen's Palace in Jinja. People laughed at Kapere because of his small stature and unique face. Many women rejected him. But Lydia saw his heart. They started living together in Makindye in 2013 and later formalized their marriage at Miracle Centre Cathedral in Rubaga. In an interview in February 2026 with Daily Monitor, Kapere cried while saying: _
In an interview in February 2026 with Daily Monitor, Kapere cried while saying: _"Lydia is the only woman who stood by me when the whole world was laughing at me. She gave me children and made me a proud father."_ For years, he struggled to feed his family. In October 2026, he even complained that comedy was no longer paying, some comedians were suffering. But his wife never left. On that Sunday, Kapere and his wife Lydia went to visit their daughter at her school in Buddo. They were on a parents' visitation day. According to family, while at the school, Kapere complained of a severe headache, then collapsed right there in front of his wife and children. He was rushed to hospital in Buddo where he was pronounced dead. His wife, Mama Trump, who was with him, watched her husband breathe his last. The same woman who held his hand in Jinja many years ago held it again as he died. He left behind a wife and four children. Bobi Wine in his tribute said: _"A loving husband who made his wife proud."_ If there was one man who loved Kapere beyond comedy, it was Robert Kyagulanyi, Bobi Wine. Their relationship started on stage. Kapere featured in Bobi Wine's hit song "Mr. Money" — playing the rich Hajji in white kanzu flashing car keys and land titles to win a woman. That video made Kapere a national star. When everyone saw Kapere as just a comedian to laugh at, Bobi saw a patriot. Bobi took him to Dubai in January 2025 — a trip Kapere talked about until his death. Bobi had promised to take him to America next. Kapere followed Bobi into politics. In June 2025, he picked NUP forms to contest for Councilor in Makindye Division, saying: _"Bobi Wine is my inspiration. I want to serve my country not just make them laugh."_ Even last week, Kapere was at NUP Headquarters in Kavule* with Joel Ssenyonyi and other leaders, planning for 2026 elections. That is why when Bobi announced his death, he broke down: "A few moments back, I just received the most devastating news regarding the untimely passing of our brother, dear friend and comrade Yokana Mbuuse fondly called Kapere Lufotose. A man who made every dark moment light. A man who loved his country and wished it well! A loss so difficult to take in." And Bobi ended with a message to the wife: _"To Maama Trump and the children, may God give you strength."_ He came from rejection, he turned his mockery into money, he loved one woman, he loved his country, and he died in the arms of his family. Rest in Peace, Tata Trump. The stage is dark without you. #ripkaperelufotose #kapere #ripkapere #nationalunityplatform #engineerkasese
