That’s the story I remember most from my brother. He said he walked with thousands of other people, across the Brooklyn Bridge, home to Brooklyn Heights. He said everyone was silent. ❤️

I was in a school that rolled in the TVs…one boy’s dad was on the second plane. He watched his dad d** on live TV in class and had no idea until he got home…

I was in there 5th grade. What I'm reflecting on now is so much was talked about the adults and people in college who understood what was going on. But there isn't enough talk about the kids who experienced it, the panic, watching our parents and the world panic and not have answers when they always had. Those of us who knew what happened but had no way to grasp the magnitude of it until later. It's been impacting me now more in my 30s than ever before

I was a server at a popular pizza place in Ohio that’s usually noisy and popping. we stayed open but people were so quiet and just ate, watched TV and left. So Erie and somber

My dad worked in New Jersey and had to walk back to the Bronx. My mom went to pick me up at school and hailed a taxi but there were checkpoints so she had to keep walking and then take another taxi when possible bc I didn’t live close to school.

I was a senior in high school in my women’s history class. We watched everything live on tv as it happened, watching people jump, it was horrific. I’m 42 now and I still think about it. I can’t imagine what you all went through.

I think my grandpa was in that stream of people. He talked about walking down the road with his briefcase for blocks and blocks, surrounded by people covered in dust

My husband and I had Nextel phones. The walkie talkie part was the only part working. We could only talk to each other. I was in 38th street, he was on 23rd. Neither of us were allowed to go home from our jobs. We were lucky, my friends husband drove us home to queens. Many people walked home. sad time.

I was in Washington, DC; there were so many people on the street going home but it was eerily quiet except for the fighter jets…

Was 11 yrs old living in DC. Old enough to comprehend what happened physically, emotionally…. there’s still a bit of engrained panic in all of us kids. We watched on tv. Our parents all in their 30s/40s..:kids themselves.

Later that day, late afternoon, I needed to get out of my apartment in Midtown Atlanta. So I walked to Piedmont Park. It was packed, but so quiet! No traffic noise from the surrounding streets because everyone had gone home midday. But I was so quiet that every now and then you could catch a bit of conversation of the tragedy from people as they walked by.

I was a junior in college in NJ. We could see the skyline from campus. My boyfriend’s best friend worked in lower manhattan, for JP Morgan I think, and we were panicking all day, not knowing if he was ok. Hours and hours later we finally heard that he made it home. He walked all the way uptown. I can only imagine what that was like. What he saw. I knew him for five years and he never talked about it.
