I saw a comment on another video of a girl who was in elementary school in New Jersey on that day. Her mom was in the towers. All day kids were getting picked up except her. It went into the night and nothing. Her mom showed up an after all that time that night just covered in dust. Her mom survived the towers and WALKED all the way to her school to get her. 😭😭😭 as a mom, I just KNOW that mom was determined to get to her baby

For me it’s the vote on United 93. Before deciding on overtaking the cabin, the passengers voted. Idk. Something so distinctly American in a situation like that is heartbreaking to me.

The woman who was trapped beneath the rubble with 6 firemen and they all chose to stay there with her until help came for them, 9 years later she passed away and those 6 firemen were her pallbearers 😫😫

The dog leading the blind man down the steps to safety. The jumpers. The fact that the priest died before anyone of a heart attack in the lobby and the fire fighters saying he had to go first bc god knew the victims needed someone to lead them to heaven.

I heard JUST TODAY for the very first time about how the children in the daycare center were put into shopping carts and the teachers ran with them 😩😩

I just learned how the names at the memorial are grouped. They are near people who were on the floors together, or first responders who worked together. They are all related to each other in some way not alphabetically organized. This way families could grieve together their loved ones who were connected in some way on that day.

The seeing eye dog that led everyone on her owner’s floor to safety, but her owner thought he wouldn’t make it so he let her go ahead of him expecting to die, but she came back for him, and got him out, too. 🥺

I’m usually good at like, tearing up but not actually crying. But I was watching Generation 9/11 on Netflix and one of the women was talking about the first responders getting ready to head inside one of the buildings and said “one of them said ‘we may not live through this’… so they all took a moment to shake each other’s hands. None of them made it out.” And that’s what finally made me sob

The office staff that refused to leave their paraplegic coworker behind, taking turns 4 at a time to carry him down the stairs. when the firefighters told them to go on, they would finish bringing him down. they refused to leave him and finished the climb 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

In fourth grade I had a friend who was born on 9/11 and that’s the only reason her and her mom are still alive bc her mom worked in the towers. Her mom went into labor with her at ~3 am and she was born at ~9 am. Her mom said she was sitting there holding her brand new baby watching the news, knowing so many of her friends and colleagues were gone, and not being able to do anything 💔

For me it’s the people who jumped holding hands. Choosing human connection to comfort them in their final moments.

My friend of 15 years JUST told me he was part of the water rescue. He never brought it up because “he didn’t really do anything, just kept people calm and got them to safety”

I remember blood drives everywhere and people going to give blood. About a week after they said you “have to stop giving blood because we’re not finding anybody”.

Something I think of every year on 9/11 is the photo called “the falling man” My teacher explained as it was shown to us, there’s no gore, there’s no blood, but you know by looking that someone lost their life that day. He looked so at peace with his decision to jump instead of burn or be crushed alive.

I read one story where a man stuck in the north tower called his wife and they both realized he had no chance of escaping so they just started talking about their life and memories together before the tower collapsed. Then she would later die in a plane crash herself 8 years later 💔

the veterinarians that rushed to ground zero to treat the search and rescue dogs. i only know about this because our previous vet (who we loved) had a small newspaper clipping framed on their wall, otherwise it would never have occurred to me.

The boat rescue was the largest maritime evacuation in human history. The biggest before that? The civilian evacuation of British troops in Dunkirk during WW2
