@helenaodinson: September 10, 2026 | Italy 🇮🇹 A severe wave of bad weather brought heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and squally winds to the central and northern regions of the country. A powerful torrential rain struck Rome in the morning: streets turned into raging streams in places, with reports of flooding coming from the EUR and Garbatella districts, trees and branches fell, and serious traffic disruptions occurred. The coastal district of Ostia was also hit. In Lazio, the storm was accompanied by severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. Off the coast of Liguria, near Santa Margherita Ligure, a waterspout (tromba marina) formed over the sea. In Latisana, in the province of Udine, a woman was trapped in a car in a flooded underpass and tragically could not be saved. An orange weather alert was in effect for Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, and much of Veneto, while a yellow alert covered Lazio, Liguria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Umbria, and Trentino-Alto Adige.
