Matthew Scott said a review is in place to work out why a late-night call to Kent Police failed “to muster a response more quickly” to the disruption caused by Patriot Platform. He is supporting a “structured debrief” involving an assistant chief constable and the operationally independent College of Policing to examine “the authorised professional practice around protests”. The review will cover “intelligence and how it is triaged”, said the commissioner as he appeared before the Kent and Medway Police and Crime Panel at County Hall, Maidstone, today. He “restated” the apology to Dover residents, businesses and travellers disrupted by Saturday’s incident, which is “not an issue of their making” and condemned the use of face-covering “appalling intimidation”. But Mr Scott’s response was dismissed as “word salad” by panel member Cllr Stuart Jeffery, who called for a more direct approach. Kent Police has already admitted an initial review of its handling of the Patriot Platform protests found non-emergency information was received on Friday evening that a demo could take place in Dover on Saturday.
