One of Nagoya's busiest areas went from deep floodwater to dry pavement in less than a day after an extraordinary burst of rain hit the city. Nagoya recorded 104.5 mm of rain in a single hour, the highest one-hour total since records began in 1890. Flooding spread through streets in the Sake district as taxis pushed through standing water and pedestrians crossed carefully. The Shonai River was placed under Japan's highest Level 5 emergency warning, while evacuation orders covered about 1.31 million people in the city. Subway services stopped, Shinkansen trains were halted, and roads became temporarily unusable. By 8 AM the next morning, footage from the same intersection showed dry streets, normal traffic and deliveries moving again after drainage systems cleared most of the water overnight. Four minor injuries were reported across Aichi Prefecture, with no deaths reported so far. How surprised are you by how quickly the flooded streets returned to normal?
