@amyepohl: Sometimes, speaking up really can make a difference ❤️ After sharing my experience of the @London Eye River Cruise, I was contacted by one of the senior managers and I’ve now had the opportunity to speak with him at length over FaceTime. I uploaded that video last Friday and by Monday they were already putting things in place. I honestly didn’t expect such a quick and thoughtful response. They listened to what happened, took my concerns seriously, apologised and have committed to improving how they communicate with wheelchair users when the lift is out of order. They’ve also very kindly refunded our group and invited us back in the future. And I wanted to share this part of the story because I think it’s just as important as sharing the problem in the first place. I will never stop speaking about the barriers disabled people face. But my goal isn’t to attack businesses - it’s to encourage change. When a company listens, takes accountability and actually does something about it, I think that deserves to be recognised too. So thank you, Robin and thank you to the London Eye for taking my experience seriously. ❤️ This is what positive change can look like. #grwm #calltoaction #storytime #london #wheelchairgirl

A lift that's broken for over a week is a choice not to fix it, from whoever owns it

They should notify all prebooked tickets. It’s a blast email. Not overly difficult and you cover everyone even those with temporary issues

How many other disabled people had to go through that before someone with a platform finally shamed them into action? Absolutely outrageous and I'm sorry to you Amy and anyone like you whose dignity suffered.

Listen, shit happens, stuff breaks, but what's important is how things are handled, and the way they got back to you and handled things is good!

Oh that's brilliant! Think I should maybe have a word with my local tesco manager, feels like every other time I'm there the customer lift is broken. They don't even put up signs to say if the service lift is available

Mistakes were definitely made on multiple counts, but they've had a good response to the criticism, and will hopefully make improvements going forward. That's the goal.

Question: why are you putting wax on your hand and putting a bag over it?

I am so pleased they have done this. Also they could just update their website or tag it on their page and let people know that information prior to arrival. Glad they have taken it seriously

Have I missed that they fully refunded you? Because if not, that response is not good enough.

having worked in a busy tourist site (not london eye), thank you so much for sharing this publicly. often businesses do not prioritise accessibility, and leave the response to staff who are often ill-equipped to support accessibility needs. this is a conversation that needs to happen and i am so appreciative to see it seems to have been resolved constructively ❤️
