This is a really great way to approach it with your daughters, it’s such an important conversation to be having. But please don’t forget, YOU didn’t do anything wrong, these things happens slowly and inconsistently which makes them incredibly difficult to recognise for what they are. No amount of imperfection on your part makes you responsible for another person’s decision to harm you, and self-reflection does not require self-blame ❤️

My daughter who is 12 I tell, or remind whenever the opportunity suits to be very careful who she chooses to spend her time with. Butterflies is not a positive feeling and when someone says something that makes you feel insecure or impacted in any way other then positive, it’s your body telling to you it’s not okay.

I'm mid divorce from a 23 year marriage. I have 17 year old twin girls, and a 19 year old daughter at uni. We talk a lot about life, relationships, what their friends put up with in relationships. I'm absolutely certain none of them would put up with the crap that our generation did and that some of their friends put up with now. They know exactly how they should be treated, just keep talking 🥰

My dad recently said to me that it was his fault I ended up married to the wrong person. So basically 45 years after I got divorced he said he should’ve allowed me to live with my now ex-husband because he realises I would not have married him. I think it’s incredibly important to instill them to take their time when choosing the one they want to spend the rest of my life with.

I think part of it is also that people are raised with a view that relationships are hard work, and nothing can ever be perfect. So they think it’s part of life, give and take, compromise and so on… and then many of us saw similar relationships around them, women tiptoeing around some difficult man

You need to make sure the oldest isn’t a parent-ified child. This is what happens with so many oldest girls. They end up taking on responsibilities for the feelings of people around them which sounds like what happened with you.
