@becksliveshealthy: Your routine probably isn’t going to look like someone who works a typical Monday– Friday schedule. And that’s OK! 👏🏻 If you’re a nurse trying to figure out how to make fitness and nutrition work with your schedule, comment “NURSE FREEBIE” and I’ll send you my free guide 💌 After years of working 12-hour shifts, this is what I’ve found works best for me: ✨ I rest on my work days My 12-hour shifts are my rest days. I’m already working a long day, so I stopped feeling like I also needed to fit in a workout before or after my shift. ✨ Sleep comes first This was a big change for me. I used to wake up at 4 AM to work out before a 12-hour shift, and eventually realized it wasn’t worth sacrificing my sleep. Now I prioritize getting enough rest and save my workouts for my days off. ✨ I lift on my days off This is when I actually have the time and energy to get in a good workout. I aim for 3 strength workouts a week and move them around depending on my work schedule. ✨ I prep food for my shifts Nothing crazy or complicated. I just make sure I have meals and snacks packed so I’m not trying to figure out what to eat during a busy shift. ✨ I focus on movement outside of work Especially now that I spend most of my 12-hour shifts sitting, I make an effort to get my steps in on my days off. Walks are one of the easiest ways for me to add more movement without feeling like I need to do more cardio. ✨ If I’m in a deficit, I keep it reasonable You don’t need to cut your calories just because you’re trying to lose fat. I’d rather use a smaller deficit that I can actually stick to while still having enough energy for work and my workouts. ✨ I keep my meals simple I focus on getting enough protein and building balanced meals that keep me full and give me energy through a long shift. Your routine doesn’t have to look perfect Monday- Sunday. Build it around your shifts and make it work for YOUR life 🩷 #nursefitness #nurseswholift #nursewellness #fitnessfornurses #nurselife
