@perezcharleskezxd5: Is it fair for an 18-year-old to face serious charges for dating a 17-year-old? 🤔 Many believe these laws don’t account for real-life scenarios. Let's discuss how the justice system impacts young lives! #statutorylaw #justice #prisonreform #youthrights #legal #prison #fyp #viral
I had a friend who had this exact problem. Her parents hated him, he was a few months older, they called the cops on his 18th birthday. Luckily New York had Romeo& Juliet

It happened to my uncle. He was dating a girl for about 2 years and her parents hated him so moment he turned 18 they filed a police report. He was only a year and some months older than her.

yeah I had a buddy who went through this him and his girl had been together since he was like 14 and she was 13 and the instant he turned 18 her parents called the cops press charges on him he went to jail first that and had to register as a sex offender soon as he got out they got back together they got married and they have been fighting the state ever since to get everything taken off his record or it expunged because they've been together almost 30 years now and it has screwed up a lot of his life because of the way his her parents were

I agree with this because especially if you’re in the same high school where people turn 18 in high school depending on your birthday and you’re having these relationships.. and it sucks because the law that is supposed to protect children also hurts them. And we’ve seen over the course of American history that the laws do change but they’re slow to do at the expense of people’s lives

I believe that if they can prove that the couple have been dating for awhile and one turns 18 it shouldn't be illegal

I went through this sort of when I was 18, she was 16. Granted I had just turned 18 and she was turning 17 four months after my birthday. Racist Hispanic family sent her to live in New York before she even had her birthday. We still talk about today and how silly that was haha.

My step-father did criminal defense, he basically said the prosecutors wanted nothing to do with this and considered it a waste of time.

@EriktheHeretik: When I was as 18 my gf was 17 and her dad caught us. He flipped out and had me arrested. Luckily I got off with just probation and wasn’t allowed to have contact with her until she turned 18. Scared the hell out of me but it turned out ok. We had been together for three years at the time. It did however show up years later when I tried to become a substitute teacher and it kept me from doing that.

Happened to a friend of mine. He turned 18 a month or two before she turned 17. Her mom didn't like him, filled a police report. He had to be in the SO Registry for a while because of it.

most states can charge you for statutory even if both are 16 because neither can "give consent"

I know a guy that caught a charge. He was 18, she was 15 and got pregnant. He got out after two years and had a no contact. She picked him up from prison and he got a probation violation and did 3 years for having contact with her. After three years she picked him up from prison and they are still married after 17 years. It’s a weird situation
