@jenmcauley2017: Camping with kids - and often not on holiday parks with lots of onsite entertainment. And no, we don’t take tablets (we don’t actually own tablets, although the kids definitely get borderline too much tv at home but I attempt some sort of limit on it 🤪) So…do the kids get bored? Yep! At times…but they get bored at home 🤷🏼‍♀️ And they have tantrums, arguments, moods…but they have that at home. But what they do get from camping is: 🌿 An insane amount of fresh air 🥪 Meals eaten outside 🎨 Space to draw, play and make things up 📚 Time to read without distractions ⭐️ Stargazing 🏃‍♀️ Freedom to run around 👋 The chance to make friends 🌊 Beach days and exploring 🔥 Campfires and marshmallows 💦 Getting involved in the little jobs — even filling up the water container 😂 🦋 And probably a bit more independence than they get at home And sometimes… they just sit around doing absolutely nothing. Which, actually, might be a good thing. I’m not saying camping magically stops kids getting bored, fighting or having a meltdown. It doesn’t. And let’s not forget, that I absolutely despise board games, especially with kids, and it generally ends badly all round, whether at home or not! I love that camping gives them the chance to slow down, get a bit grubby, be curious, use their imaginations and just… be kids. They don’t need constant entertainment. They just need a bit of space, a bit of freedom and the opportunity to get stuck in. 🏕️🤍 And honestly, some of my favourite clips from our camping trips this summer are the completely ordinary bits in between the big adventures.
