I was talking to another mom the other day and she said “I’m literally trying everything and our meals just turn into a battle where we are both frustrated. I dread meals because I know they won’t even try new foods (even if they ate them as a baby!!) and we are in such a picky cycle eating the same foods over and over.” Been there! You’re not alone in feeling frustrated with food rejection🙋‍♀️.  If you’re wanting to make changes with meals and food rejection it’s important to make sure your goals are REALISTIC for them to even be achievable. So what do we know actually works to help people acheive goals? In this case… helping kids learn to accept non-preferred foods? ⭐️Break down your goals (and the food) literally into small pieces. ➡️With everything! Small steps, small teeny tiny portions, lower expectations, and take the pressure off. ✅But what’s important is to also see the WINS that are occurring too! Are they accepting the “new” food in their space or on on their plate? A WIN.🏆 Did they touch it? A WIN. 🏆 These positive interactions help make new associations for them that can lead them to want to try it in the future. Try teeny tiny portions to make it easier to tolerate that “new” or non-preferred food on a plate. It’s less overwhelming for them! ⭐️It really takes time for approaches like this to work. So don’t give up because the next time you offer it, their tastes may have changed. Keep your cool, and play the long game with their nutrition💚. They can meet their nutrient needs with other foods while they learn to eat the non-preferred ones you are offering. I talk more about these strategies that actually work if you want to learn more. Follow along! #pickyeating #pickyeaters #kidsnutrition
