@jalightfoot: If your hair is growing but you’re not retaining length, this might be why. For the longest time, I kept skipping deep conditioning because I didn’t feel like doing the extra step. I thought regular conditioner was enough, but my hair was dry, breaking off, and not retaining the length I was working so hard to grow. The truth is, deep conditioning isn’t optional if you’re serious about healthy natural hair. It helps bring moisture back into your strands after wash day, improves elasticity so your hair can stretch without snapping, strengthens your hair to help prevent breakage, and makes detangling/styling SO much easier. And if your hair has been feeling extra dry, try adding a steam treatment once a month before wash day. It helps your deep conditioner penetrate better so your hair can hold onto moisture longer. One thing I’m learning on this waist-length hair journey is that consistency matters. Sometimes the results we’re looking for are hiding in the steps we keep skipping. So consider this your reminder: stop avoiding that deep conditioner. Your hair needs it more than you think. Have you been deep conditioning every wash day? Be honest.

Growth ain't retention without a trim schedule. Six months minimum or you lying to yourself.

Ngl I skip regular conditioner and just jump too deep conditioner after I shampoo. Bonus points if my hair is already in twists so I don’t have to do too much for sections

The thing that really elevated my deep condition and made me want to do it was a hot cap from a video from someone else on length retention

Specialists have said you don’t need to condition then deep condition after. You should be doing either or. That’s a waste of product.

We wash our hair once a week and leave the conditioner in for 10-15 minutes. I think part of it is how often you wash your hair too.

I also recommend getting a heated cap for when you deep condition. It’s a game changer !!!!
