@crimexpod: What began as a simple Saturday night out for Channon Christian and Chris Newsom ended in one of Tennessee’s most horrifying criminal cases. The young Knoxville couple had gone out for dinner and planned to meet friends afterward. They never made it. Instead, they were ambushed during a carjacking and taken against their will to a rental house on Chipman Street. Inside that house, both were subjected to hours of horrific violence. Chris was restrained, blindfolded, and eventually taken to nearby railroad tracks, where he was shot and his body was set on fire. Channon remained trapped inside the house, enduring further brutality before she was ultimately killed by suffocation inside a kitchen trash can. Days later, investigators entered the house and encountered a crime scene so disturbing that some members of law enforcement reportedly needed counseling afterward. A massive investigation followed. Lemaricus Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins, George Thomas, Vanessa Coleman, and later Eric Boyd were arrested and prosecuted for their roles in the murders. Their convictions resulted in sentences ranging from life imprisonment to the death penalty. Yet no sentence could undo what happened to Channon and Chris, or erase the lasting pain carried by their families and the Knoxville community. Their story remains a deeply disturbing reminder of how quickly an ordinary night can turn into unimaginable tragedy.
