My father worked in the WTC. I watched it on TV in my classroom. He did not go in for work because he had a dentist appointment that morning and came and picked me and my brothers up. 🙏

I was at work in building 4 next to building 2. After the FDNY got us out we started running. I was trying to run towards my daughter’s daycare but the buildings came down and I couldn’t see anything. It was pure chaos I was covered from head to toe and we had to walk as far north as possible. I ended up at my grandmas house in Harlem and saw my daughter which i didn’t know my aunt had got her out before the buildings fell. And i lived in Battery Park City two blocks away so I couldn’t go home for 3 months. This is a day I will never forget on top of the severe survivors remorse I still deal with.

I just started sixth grade and remember watching it literally live on tv. I remember watching the second plane crash and it was just so wild to witness that in real time.

I gave birth to our second child the Tuesday before so I was home on maternity leave, but my husband was at the Pentagon and had just left right before the plane hit. We had cellphones but couldn’t connect for hours. Traffic here in the DMV was a nightmare that day.

My grandma would tell me her story every year. She worked across the manhattan bridge and left early that day cause of the attack. My aunt went to school in manhattan so she had to travel across the bridge to pick up my auntie early from school. All the trains getting out of Manhattan was shut down. But the people was so unified that day people asked where they were going and if they were heading to queens hoop in. Whew they made it their destination safely, it’s still crazy to hear

Exactly this. I stayed home that day for whatever reason and the ac guy was working on our stuff. He stayed all day with my mom when he found out my dad was in the pentagon…(he was fine), but they had STRICT no phone call rules and he had to drive a rental from dc to new orleans to get home.

I was watching Maury on my day off and then the news interrupted the show and I saw the plane hitting the building… my phone was ringing in my room it was my supervisor mandating all of us to report to the base (emt) I had a small child at the time and needed to get a babysitter so he said bring my son in and dispatch the busses for him for a few hours because he needed as much help as he can get … he passed away a few years back of complications with his lungs due to 911 smh it was horrible so many of my friends were effected

I’m from Texas, they turned our classroom TVs on and they broadcasted this on the news! Shortly after they sent us home saying the U.S was under attack….. I’ll never forget… RIL to all the victims 😔

I had just turned 16 sitting in class 2nd period when the principal came over the intercom and announced it. They told us to go STRAIGHT home afterschool. I cry watching the docs about what they all went through

I was in MD on 9/11 and the way you described it was very similar to my day at school. We lived about 45 min away from DC in the suburbs of Baltimore. All of the sudden kids are being pulled out of school one by one and no one knew what was going on. I knew my parents weren't going to pick me up though. I remember a friend saying the same thing but 5 min later she was called. My Mother was a teacher and my Dad a Police officer and they both worked in Baltimore. There's also a WTC there. At first I thought that was hit. They closed school and I took the bus home. I remember turning on the TV to see people jumping out of buildings and just weeping. My dad didn't come home until very late at night because he was helping to secure the Baltimore WTC. My mother was home earlier but still very late because she was taking care of students. I had many classmates whose parents worked in DC. It was pure chaos and still nothing compared to NYC.

I was also in elementary school but in FL. I remember our school didn’t do the morning show like usual and my classmates getting picked up one by one. I didn’t know what happened til we got home and turned on the news. It took me a while to understand a deliberate attack like that.

5 years old, saw it live, I was alone then went to find my parents. Literally one of my only memories at that age. It was a weird feeling. Everything felt grey.
