@keriberry_: "Mom...unless you’re diabetic or living with diabetes people just can’t fully understand it." She said those words to me yesterday on the way home from her endocrinologist and they struck a chord deep in my heart. She’s right. No matter how many lows I treat, how many highs I correct, how many alarms wake me up in the middle of the night, or how many hours I spend counting carbs, calculating insulin, and worrying about what comes next… I will never truly understand the full weight of this disease because I’m not the one living in her body with it. And that hurts. Because if I could take this disease from her, I would. Without hesitation. I can’t carry her diabetes for her but I can make sure she never has to carry it alone. 🤍 #Type1Diabetes #T1DMom #DiabetesAwareness #Type1DiabetesWarrior #MomLife
I have understood it for 26 years. I use to tell my mom the same thing then sadly my mom got it as well… she recently came to me and apologized for all the years of have not having it like you. At that moment I thank her for all the years of trying and sometimes just being there in it with me. You’re a good mom and continue to support her in this crappy illness!!!

She's 100% correct. My wife gets upset at me over simple questions I don't answer, like what do you want for dinner or what should we do this weekend? No one understands the amount of times I have to make a decision regarding my diabetes! Should I take more insulin? Less insulin? I'm I trending low or high? How many carbs is that? Do I have emergency sugar? Where can I find some? It goes on and on! Be there for her and let her know that you understand you'll never truly know what it's like.

My son is currently at Murray State University in the BSN nursing program with plans to get his Doctor of Nursing specializing in endocrinology so that he can work with fellow diabetics because he wants to be able to help with the understanding of someone who is living with it.

this is exactly why we sent Reggie to camp. the friends she made has made all the difference. having her "diabaddies" group chat with her cabin mates on burnt out days has lifted her up in a way that we can't.

As painful as it is it's true. I'm a healthcare worker and I've worked with diabetes clients my entire career yet I couldn't fully grasp it until I became one. It's a completely different world living with it 24/7. I'm certain she didn't say it to hurt you.

My recently diagnosed son has already told me this as well :/ it’s heartbreaking. But as someone that has had panic attacks/anxiety almost my entire life, I get it .. you don’t understand and you’ll never understand it unless you live it
