@hair_by_bhart: Obviously it was not a good night nor has it been a good morning. And I’m so tired and I feel so bad today because I have not gotten any sleep or relief. #sciaticarelief #sciatica #herniateddisc #backpain #nashville

I’m 38 years old and 9 weeks post-op from an L5-S1 microdiscectomy, and I truly feel like this surgery gave me a second chance at life. Before surgery, the pain became so unbearable that it completely changed my quality of life. I went from being active and independent to struggling just to stand for a few minutes. My world became very small, very quickly. I woke up from surgery and the excruciating nerve pain was GONE. 🙌🏼 Would I recommend a microdiscectomy? Based on my experience, absolutely. If your pain is taking away your ability to live your life and conservative treatments aren’t helping, I think surgery is worth having a serious conversation about with your surgeon. Surgery isn’t the easy way out. Recovery takes patience, discipline, and a lot of mental strength. But 9 weeks later, I can look back and say without hesitation: I would do it all over again. I didn’t realize how much of my life I had lost to pain until I started getting it back. ❤️‍🩹 Here’s to my second chance. ✨

Sucks we have to struggle, right before my fusion I was 3,000mg of Tylenol and two aleve liquid gels and would hardly touch the pain. Told my pcp and my pain management doctor. They only wanted to push steroid shots. but at the time they quit working so he tried to get me on gaba and I said no tried Tylenol 3 but I think i am allergic to codine as well. I said noco works because it worked after hernia surgery and it wasn’t an option 🤬

I’ve been on gabapentin before and it did not at all feel addictive. I was shocked when they made it a scheduled drug

I take tramadol and zanaflex. I was on gabapentin for years and I’m just now starting to get my memories back after being off it for two years.

12 years of neuropathy and I had tried everything and really nothing touches the pain except for gabapentin. I take 300 mg probably once a day just to take the edge off. The other answer is unfortunately you do have to just get used to dealing with some level of pain. God bless you.

gabapetin normally takes 2 weeks before you notice a difference. It helps my nerve pain and also the anxiety I get from the pain. Helps me sleep at night

I know your pain. I ended up having surgery and it was immediate relief. I used Dr. McNamara in Franklin, TN. We tried everything and surgery was the last option. I hope you get well.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. Sciatica is the worst and it’s so debilitating. I had an L4 disc herniation and I found out I had Bertolotti Syndrome. Unfortunately gabapentin was the only thing that helped me feel better. I had to take 1800mg/day 😭 … but I eventually was able to get better and I’m completely off all meds. I ensure to stretch and walk every day. Also trying to keep your stress down helps as well. Hoping for better days for you! I totally understand I’ve been there ❤️

I saw RED on gabapentin. I was instantly pissed off. I take a muscle relaxer at night, I can’t do the ibuprofen with the mobic. I feel like a damn Walgreens pharmacy with the amount of meds in my cabinet. It’s ridiculous. I just do mobic and tizandine and fight the pain because I hate the way I feel on them.

if that’s giving you relief keep taking it dont take nsaid though those destroy your stomach if you take them for too long. Talk to your doctor how long can you take it if he says you can take it for months do it so you can tale your physical therapies . Ive been on muscle relaxers for 2 months they don’t destroy my stomach or do the damage nsaid do.

None of those things helps me either! I feel your pain! I’ve been dealing with it for almost a year. It would get better for a little bit but then all of a sudden it came back!! 😩 neurosurgeon said it should heal on its own within 6 months….it did but then the pain came back! I don’t want the surgery and have heard horror stories from ppl but what do you do???

Never ever gabapentine and Lyrica .I used them both and Iam a scientists and I didn’t want to take but I was kind of obliged. My kidney function tests went up i was very close to start dialysis.Just go to pain clinic and ask for cortisone injection or there is a procedure that blocks the nerves and you don’t feel pain still Iam doing research to know what are the side effects of that procedure

I was told to take ibuprofen and Tylenol for a year. Then I was told gabapentin. I had extreme memory problems on gabapentin within a week! I felt like I was treated like i was drug seeking. Had to fight for the MRI. Before I was off the MRI table, tech said the quicker I get it taken care of the better I would be. I didn’t sleep for almost a year! I was rushed in for surgery and they apologized for not helping sooner. I could have tap danced on his desk and nothing was happening.
