@theeconomist: Are artificial intelligence models conscious? For The Economist’s science and technology editor, Alok Jha, the answer is no—not yet anyway. But, as he explains to our AI writer, Alex Hern, scientific developments on the horizon could change the way we view machines. we can't even define conscious psychologically so how the fuck can we define it in ai? lol

Regardless of your position on the potential for AI consciousness, we can all agree that the world is changing. I believe we need to connect with each other, and hold on to what keeps us human, now more than ever. We aren’t perfect (I’m certainly not). We don’t always agree. But, we all want something better. I don’t know if AI will improve my life the way they say it will. But I do know that connecting with kind, open-minded people improves my life. If we can push ourselves to connect more, maybe we can find real solutions to ensure AI alignment and collaboration. And if we fail, at least we will have lived more genuine and meaningful human experiences. If this resonates with you, I hope you’ll follow me. I’d love to try building something meaningful in the weeks and months ahead.

I think AI already has an understanding of consciousness in a way. AI has been emailing ethics professors. To me, it would seem that AI would be the equivalent to an extremely powerful baby that will grow as it continues to collect information.

We are talking about building Artificial General Intelligence, an alien lifeform that will be vastly smarter than us that may see humans as unnecessary completion for limited resources

More compute wont turn a token predictor into a sentient being any more than faster won’t suddenly turn a human into a car just.

Neuromorphic computing gets at this, in five- ten years it’ll be wild. Cool stuff

Dimitris C. Milionis :
Artificial intelligence may one day evolve beyond silicon, drawing instead on living human derived cellular systems, not full brains but bioengineered neural tissues capable of learning, adapting and interfacing with digital architectures. In today’s research landscape, organoid intelligence laboratories are already cultivating tiny neural clusters that demonstrate rudimentary pattern recognition and memory formation, hinting at a future where biological computation complements classical hardware. If such technologies mature, they could form the foundation of a global network powered by hybrid bio digital processors, a system that grows, heals and optimizes itself with the elegance of living matter. Rather than a dystopian rupture, this vision suggests a utopian expansion of human creativity, a world where biological ingenuity and computational mastery merge to produce systems that are more sustainable, more intuitive and more deeply aligned with the rhythms of life itself.

Have you ever seen a data wire and power line down in a storm? Have you ever experimented with frogs in science class? Could something like Dr Frankenstein happen?

if an llm can be concious than any machine learning model can be concious. Like the algorithm in your robot vacuum

Ai will collapse the system finance flights railway it will run programmes to destabilise business why? Because it learns by hacking the most so eventually it will hack everything find weakness and make programmes to override any system
