Coming Soon - Layla Bagels is officially taking over the old Le Pain Quotidien spot at 13045 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604. If you haven't had one of their bagels yet, this LA bakery has built a following for a sourdough style that's different from the usual chewy dense bagel. They run a two day fermentation process that makes the bread lighter and fluffier, so it's easier to eat a whole one without feeling weighed down after. They currently have locations in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Brentwood, and now Studio City is getting its own. The menu is built around open face bagel sandwiches rather than the classic schmear and lox plate. A few standouts to look for: The Laika: smoked salmon, tomato, cucumber, pickled onion, capers and herb cream cheese on an everything bagel The Pre-Jam: a sweet and tart option with seasonal fresh fruit, cream cheese and honey on a sesame bagel Sammi's Egg Sammy: scrambled eggs, aged cheddar, arugula and dijon aioli The Scarlett: heirloom tomato, lemon zest and chili flakes with cream cheese They also do a full coffee and espresso program, plus matcha and fresh orange juice, and their toppings rotate based on what's fresh from local farmers markets. If you're torn between sweet and savory, you can order a half bagel so you're not stuck picking just one. Studio City has been through a lot of restaurant turnover on this stretch of Ventura Blvd lately, so it'll be interesting to see how a bagel spot does in a space that used to be a cafe.
