You would need an adult the whole time because what if they don’t have the initial phonemes for each word. This would be a good game for identifying short vowels, however truck come on they would need to know blends and digraphs and now the vowels.

I have seen this so many times and vowel substitutions is not how kids learn how to read and is one of the most advanced phonics skills you can achieve. The appropriate way to play this would be to segments then identify the sound heard.

The Tiny Human Training Manual :
Sorting by the middle vowel is so much harder than it looks...kids can usually hear the first and last sound long before they can isolate the one in the middle. Truck going in the u cup means she's actually pulling apart the whole word, not just matching a picture.💚
